HOPE Internship Program (Volunteer/Non-Paid)
The SHCS: HOPE & Wellness Center is seeking a passionate and driven students to join
the education and advocacy team. This role involves leading programs, educating peers,
and empowering students to adopt healthy lifestyle choices. Recognizing the power
of peer-to-peer education, the center offers opportunities for students to be in an
HOPE peer advocacy and wellness support interns to make a postive impact to satisfy their internship or 90 hours credit for their class requirement or 8 hours
per week.
These dedicated student educators are trained to provide valuable health and wellness
resources to their peers and the Cal State San Marcos community. Through engaging
programs, interactive presentations, workshops, group discussions, and campus events,
HOPE interns and peer educators play a vital role in encouraging students to embrace
healthier choices. They also serve as individual sources of information, offer referrals,
and act as advocates for Student Health & Counseling Services.
Responsibilities
- Facilitating classroom presentations as needed
- Collects demographic information and evaluation forms from all training and program
participants and compiles these statistics appropriately, adjusting presentations
based upon participant feedback.
- Assist with marketing and promoting health-related programs.
- Assist with planning and implementing the Health & Wellness program, ie. Safer Spring
Break week, Suicide Prevention, It’s on US, No MORE week, Breast Cancer Awareness,
National Eating Disorders week, workshops and other health events or activities.
- Assist with designing promotional materials for programs including flyers, posters,
ads….
- Assist with development of health education videos, editing, interviewing, & broadcasting
- Assist with developing social media content and contribution to the SHCS blog
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Healthy Cougars program, SHCS staff,
& SVPE
- Continually update personal health knowledge
- Other responsibilities/duties as assigned
Student Qualifications
- Public Speaking ability and non-verbal communication skills
- Open-mindedness and passionate about health
- Relevant experience related to health
- Ability to work with others in a team setting
- Knowledge of Social Media Marketing
- Experience with iMovie a plus
- Experience with Photoshop or making flyers a plus
- Reliability, responsibility and commitment
How do I Apply to be a HOPE Peer Health Educator?
Students must apply online and complete the 20-24 hours training program to become"certified
peer educators". This position is limited and commitment is for one semester and/or
one year.
