ASI Fee Information
What is the ASI fee?
The ASI fee the mandatory student body fee that every currently enrolled CSUSM student
pays. This fee fully supports all of ASI employment, initiatives, events, and student
support servies. The ASI fee is currently $75 per academic term. ASI does not received
any additional University funds of our operations or services.
The ASI fee is a Mandatory Category II Fee that can only be increased by an approval
vote of the CSUSM student body in a student led fee referendum. To learn more about
mandatory category II fees, please see below.
The ASI fee supports:
- The ASI Board of Directors—the student-elected government that serves as the student voice on campus via participation
in university committees and state-wide advocacy.
- Employment for over 40 student positions, including team members within our Campus
Activities Board, ASI Cougar Pantry, Media & Communications Team, and Administrative
Team.
- Programs and events such as Alternative Spring Break, Festival 78, Hunger and Homelessness
Awareness Week, and more! ASI is dedicated to working vigorously to provide programs and events to engage
the student body to foster increased pride in being a CSUSM Cougar!
- The ASI Cougar Pantry serves all currently enrolled CSUSM students in an effort to decrease food insecurity
on campus. This space serves on average about 1,000 students per week within an acadmeic year.
- Student Emergency Fund, which provides compassionate assistance to students who encounter unforeseen financial emergencies
or catastrophic events that disrupt their progress towards a degree.
- Sustainability Project Funding funds student led projects that positively affect CSUSM’s sustainability educational
efforts, reduce the University’s environmental impact, and help to “green†our campus.
- ASI Leadership Funding for student organizations’ events and off -campus student attendance at professional
conferences. ASI believes it is important for students to stay engaged whether that
is with their fellow clubs and organizations or by attending conferences to build
their personal or professional development.
CSUSM Mandatory Category II Fees
CSUSM Students must pay Category II Fees in order to enroll and to attend classes.
Each of the Fees were created (and, as necessary, adjusted) through one of two mechanisms:
(i) fee referendum or (ii) alternative consultation. Each process involves student
review and approval. No Category II Fees at CSUSM have been created or charged without
input from students.
