Administration
The Office of the President at CSUSM is the central executive body that provides leadership and strategic direction for
the university. It encompasses six key areas, each playing a vital role in the university's
operations and community engagement:
- The Executive Office: This area is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the university.
It ensures that the university's mission, vision, and goals are achieved through effective
governance and strategic planning. The Executive Office also coordinates with various
stakeholders, including the CSU system, government agencies, and community partners.
- Community Relations & University Engagement: This area focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with the local
community and other external partners. It promotes community involvement and engagement
through various programs, events, and initiatives that enhance the university's presence
and impact in the region.
- Institutional Planning & Analysis: This area supports data-driven decision-making and strategic planning across the
university. It provides critical insights and analysis on institutional performance,
student outcomes, and other key metrics. This information helps guide the university's
policies, programs, and resource allocation to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.
- The Office of Inclusive Excellence: Dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, this area works to create
a welcoming and supportive environment for all members of the university community.
It develops and implements initiatives, policies, and programs that advance inclusive
excellence and address issues of bias and discrimination.
- The Office of the University Ombuds: This area offers confidential, impartial assistance to students, faculty, and staff
in resolving conflicts and concerns. The Ombuds Office provides a safe space for individuals
to discuss their issues and explore options for resolution, fostering a culture of
fairness and respect.
- University Communications: This area manages the university's internal and external communications, ensuring
clear, consistent, and effective messaging. It handles media relations, public relations,
and marketing efforts to enhance the university's public image and reputation. University
Communications also oversees the production of various publications, digital content,
and social media engagement.
CSUSM is organized into four primary divisions, each dedicated to supporting the university's mission and enhancing the student
experience:
- Academic Affairs: This division oversees the academic programs, faculty affairs, and research initiatives,
ensuring the highest standards of educational excellence and innovation.
- Student Affairs: Focused on student success and well-being, this division provides a range of services,
including counseling, career development, and student engagement activities.
- Finance and Administrative Services: Responsible for the university's financial health and operational efficiency, this
division manages budgeting, facilities, human resources, and campus safety.
- University Advancement: This division works to build and strengthen relationships with alumni, donors, and
the community, supporting the university through fundraising and strategic partnerships.
CSUSM also maintains a cooperative relationship with several non-profit auxiliaries:
- CSUSM Corporation: Oversees campus amenities such as food services and bookstores, as well as campus
housing, the M. Gordon Clarke Field House, and the University Student Union.
- Associated Students, Inc. (ASI): A student-run auxiliary governed by a student Board of Directors elected annually
by the student body, representing student interests and providing various programs
and services.
